Day 274: Saturday Ring Race

I had a busy day today.  I woke up, showered, got dressed, nursed Eis, dressed her, then ate some cereal.  While eating, my mom came home to pick up the baby, so Dad and I could go downtown for the big race!

I grabbed a Zanaflex, since I figured I'd be in some pain with all the standing and walking.  However, I mindlessly took it when I walked into the kitchen and saw my water.  It wasn't until a few minutes later when I started looking for it that I realized I took it.  This was only a problem because I took the whole thing, whereas I usually would take a quarter to a half of a pill.  Needless to say, I had us stop by Starbucks on the way, so I could have something to counter the sleepy/hazy effects of the pill.

We arrived downtown and parked right next to the park and stood around for about fifteen minutes until 1100 arrived.  At that time, they told us that they would start registration and we'd begin at 1200 and it would take two hours. Sheesh. Wish they'd said that in all the emails. Anyway, we registered, grabbed our t-shirts and walked around the park.  I took a few of our things back to the car and changed into my new shirt.

At noon we gathered and they took our picture and told us the rules:
You have to be a team of two.
You can only use one phone.
You must stay together.
You may not use public transportation.
If you answer too quickly and it seems like you're cheating, we'll take away all your points and not tell you.
You'll be given an address, then a challenge. Text back your answer.

We counted down, then texted for our first challenge.  I started walking east, since I knew nothing was west, which kind of worried my dad, since we didn't have the challenge yet.  As soon as we got it, we were headed from 11th and Guadelupe to 6th and Trinity.  I started jogging and my dad stayed right behind me (about 20 feet).

The first challenge was, "What is the color of the door?" As it was just wood, my dad thought it may be a trick.  Eventually, I convinced him that "Brown," would be an acceptable answer... and I was right.  Further challenged asked things like:
How many stars on the sign?
How many cowboy hats on the mural?
If A=1, B=2, C=3, etc., what is the value of the last name of the performer for March 3?
What number would I call if you wanted to buy this building?
Look at the third clock; what time is it?

We made four mistakes and missed two questions fully.  However, we came in 3rd place overall.  It ended up being a minimum of 6.5 miles of RUNNING over a two hour period.  We were told there were 50 questions, but we were on 51 when the time ran out.  My dad kept going by his watch and almost convinced me not to run to answer question 50 because "the time is up."  However, according to my phone (and the game system) we still had a minute.  I told him that it doesn't matter what time his watch says.

He was a good sport and fairly helpful, overall.  I take the blame for the mistakes that cost us 1st and or 2nd place, but if it were a time thing, then that blame would get passed to him.

When time was up, we walked back to the car and sat there for about 35 minutes just drinking our water and resting.  We then decided to go over to the Blind Pig Pub and head on up for the awards.  We found a parking spot around the corner and walked in.  Everyone was upstairs drinking and snacking on free food.  We went to the bathroom, then upstairs and got a tea and cookie and they began announcing winners.

I was pleased with 3rd place.  I had to talk about the positives because my dad is nothing but negative, so I have to counter that as often as I can.  We spoke to Dan, Matt, and Kirk (Root), then headed home.

I showered once I got home, then got ready to go to Belton.  Ashley and Tim were on their way to El Paso and stopped in Belton for the night and were having a small get-together.  I wrote instructions for Eis for my parents, fixed her dinner, then headed out.

I talked with Ashley, Jen, and Kelly all night.  They served pretty good food and a yummy cake!  I left at 1030, when things were winding down and made it home by 1140.

It was hard to go to sleep after a day when it was "go go go" since I woke up!
