Day 181: Sick and Tired

Ooh my goodness.  Eis didn't go to sleep last night until 0130!  She would scream and cry, then pass out for fifteen minutes, then repeat.  I tried to have her sleep in the crib, since she's using her tummy muscles more, but it just wasn't happening.  I eventually put her in the swing.  I was so tired that I was able to fall asleep, despite her crying!

She slept until 0900.  That was good, but it messed up most of the day.  She'll "usually" sleep a long stretch, then two two or three hour stretches.  However, she didn't today.  She was up, then slept for 40 minutes.  Then we had to go to the doctor because I thought I was getting sick.  However, it wasn't until after I made my appointment and Eis woke up, that I realised she may be sick, too.

She was screaming and crying.  My dad held her and tried to calm her down while I got ready to go.  He left for golf and I left for Dr. E's shortly after.  Eis got another 20 minute nap due to the car ride and sleeping for five minutes in the car before we went inside.

Dr. E said that it looks like I just have really bad allergies.  She said to keep taking my Zyrtec and gave me some nasal spray to try to help.  That's a lot of allergies to be coughing this deep!  She also informed me that I shouldn't take birth control until I'm done breastfeeding, since it'll dry up my milk supply!  It would have been nice for my OB to mention that when I was asking her about birth control -- good thing I didn't get it from her.  We also discussed checking my thyroid hormone levels, since it'd be dumb to do that in Temple.  Dr. E also mentioned that Eis could have allergies, too, but they're not given any meds, so there's not much to do.

I came home, nursed Eis and tried to get her to nap, since I knew she needed a solid nap.  However, she would have none of it.  Instead, she chose to scream and cry for two hours.  I knew she was exhausted, but it's so hard to get her to sleep once she's overly tired.  Luckily, I succeeded and she passed out around 1500.  She napped for 40 minutes and woke up.  I sat next to the swing and shushed and sung for 20 minutes until she fell back to sleep.  This time, she napped for three hours!  She was much happier when she awoke!

I fed her, then took her to the kitchen and my dad held her while I ate dinner.  We noticed her cheeks were red, but it didn't go away after a few minutes.  I brought out the thermometers and took her temperature -- 99ºF.  That's a very low grade fever, but still a fever.  She napped for a bit in my dad's arms, before I brought her back to get ready for bed.

We took a bath, put on her jammies, then I sang her a song, she nursed, took some fever reducer, and got in the swing and I read her a Dr. Seuss book and a chapter of Harry Potter.  It's still hard to read more than a page and a half with my voice.  I ended up reading to myself and just saying the dialogue... it's not like she's following the story, anyway.
